I Tried PopSugar Fitness!
This week I did PopSugar’s Most Viewed Fitness Videos! It was an exciting time. I’ll be honest, after a full day of work, I was not feeling extremely energetic as I started, but these workouts shifted my mood pretty significantly. PopSugar has a ton of fitness videos so I decided the best approach was to try the most viewed videos. This will probably be a three or four part post because I only did a few for this post. The four videos I tried were 30-, 20-, 10-, and 5-minutes; resulting in a 65 minute workout in total. Read on to find out what I thought of each!
30 Minute Hip Hop Tabata to Torch Calories
As many of you know, I love a good circuit workout so I was excited to start with this one. At a whopping 23M views, this is the most viewed video on PopSugar’s Fitness channel. When it first started, I will admit that I felt a little awkward because it was really cheesy. If you are into overly high energy and upbeat, it has a great vibe and may do the trick! If you are looking for a relatively quick and intense workout, it may not fit the bill. I did work up a bit of a sweat, but the 20-seconds on, 10-seconds off format was not followed well. The breaks were frequently longer than 10 seconds so I never felt fully challenged during the video. That being said, I do a lot of circuit training so I am more adapted to this style of workout. If you are a beginner to this type of workout and are looking for a fun and casual way to get started, this video is PERFECT for that. If you are an advanced exerciser and looking to work your butt off, another video would probably work better.
Victoria’s Secret Model Workout: 10-Minute Fat-Blasting Circuit
Flashback! This video was from 8 years ago and it is still on the top 10 most viewed, which is pretty impressive in my opinion. The title is enough to attract millions of viewers – who doesn’t want to workout like a Victoria’s Secret Model?! I found this video insightful into how women’s fitness has changed since. This ‘intense’ (spoiler – it is not that intense) workout focuses on toning the legs and butt. Sure, we all still want that as part of our routine, but I like to think women’s fitness has moved more into total body strength and conditioning. Overall, it was a nice, quick workout. I did not think it was enough to be a stand-alone workout, but it would be a good warm-up or finisher for your leg day workout!
20-Minute STRONG by Zumba Cardio and Full-Body Toning Workout
This was more like it! By far the best video of the group. You spend the entire 20 minutes moving and working. I felt challenged and satisfied at the end of this video. It was fun and upbeat, without being overly cheesy. I had fun, danced, and felt strong at the same time. Granted, some of the moves my body had a tough time figuring out how to do, but no one was watching so I just laughed it off and kept trying. If you are looking for a quick, not-so-easy workout video, THIS IS IT! I will be doing this one again! My only modification for the next time I do it will be to probably play my own music because their music was quieter than I like.
5-Minute Standing Flat-Belly Workout
I did not expect this one to be high-energy/work my butt off since it is only 5 minutes. It was a nice cool down from the other videos. In my opinion, it was not particularly difficult or exhausting, but it was a nice close to my hour of videos and left me feeling content and ready to transition to the next part of my day. I don’t have much more to say about this one honestly. It would be a good video to do as a work/brain break during the day.
Concluding Thoughts on PopSugar’s Most Viewed Fitness Videos
If you are looking to increase movement, any of these videos are wonderful! For a beginner circuit workout or just to let loose and have some fun, try the hip-hop tabata video. To supplement your leg day, try to Victoria’s Secret Model circuit. If you want a quick, but intense workout, check out the Zumba video. For a quick break during the work day, the 5-minute standing ab workout will serve you! If you want a full 60 minute workout, do all of them (the order I list them in worked well for me).
